Arlington Vermont is located north of Bennington Vermont, about a 15 minute drive on RT 7A. The town abuts the Battenkill River, a spring-fed limestone stream best-known known for its wild brook and brown trout fishing. The local library houses the “Russell Vermontiana” collection of rare chronicles about Vermont history and genealogy, and one of Vermont’s famous covered bridges, the 80-foot “Bridge at the Green,” spans the Battenkill along one of the town roads. The famous painter Norman Rockwell lived in Arlington for much of his life, and the inspiration for his works can be seen throughout the town. Arlington was formerly the capitol of the Republic of Vermont, and once was home to Ethan and Ira Allen and the rebellious Green Mountain Boys of the Revolutionary War. Mt Equinox offers hiking just north of the town, and the Arlington Recreation Park offers pond swimming, year-round trails, and even nine holes of golf. Some of Vermont’s finest skiing and snowboarding are under an hour away from Arlington Vermont real estate, including Okemo Mountain Resort, Bromley Mountain Ski Resort, and Magic Mountain Ski Resort.
