The town of Pownal Vermont is located in extreme Southern Vermont, on the western side of the state, near both the New York and Massachusetts borders. The town was named after Thomas Pownal, once Governor of Massachusetts, and the town is central to a few interesting historical tidbits. Vermont’s only racetrack was once operated in Pownal, and one of only a few witch trials was held in the town. The town sits between the Taconic Mountains and the Green Mountains, and much of the Pownal real estate enjoys views of these two ranges. The Hoosac River flows through the town on its way into New York. Pownal Vermont real estate is less than an hour away from some of the best Vermont ski resort fun, including Stratton Mountain Ski Resort, Magic Mountain Ski Resort, and Bromley Mountain Ski Resort.
